Kathakali Nalacharitham 4th Day Vol. 1
Kathakali is one of the oldest theatre arts that originated in Kerala. It is a group performance in which dancers act in roles based on mythological characters from the Ramayana and Mahabharata. Kathakali is the perfect interpretation of ‘Natya Sastra’ – the science of acting – comprising harmonious compilation of music, dance and rhythm. In the 18th century, Unnayi Warrier structured the story of Nalan and Damayanthi (characters depicted in Mahabharatha as told by Sage Brihadaswan to Dharmaputra) as ‘Nalacharitham Attakatha’ with dramatic and action content to suit the art form, which is divided into 4 parts, where each part is enacted over the course of an entire night. This album has 4 musical pieces performed on Day 4, presented by Cheruthuruthy Kathakali School, with music composed by Kalanilayam Unnikrishnan and sung by Kalamandalam Babu Namboodiri.
