Pancharimelam Part - 1
This album presents the perfect glory of one of the best percussion ensembles associated with the temple arts of Kerala. This traditional percussion ensemble ‘Panchari Melam’ consists of the Chenda, Ilathalam, Kombu and Kuzhal and is well known for performing at the eastern gate of the Peruvanam Temple. Panchari, a six beat tala is performed in 5 phases – where Phase 1 has 3 stages of performance known as Pathikaalam (Slow tempo), Etakaalam (Intermediate tempo) and Kuzhamarichil (Rotary movement of the wrists) and the final 5th phase takes up all the 3 stages. The performance concludes with rhythm cycles played in full gusto, which provides a shower of melody – a fitting finish to the recital. This album by Cheranalloor Sankarankutty Marar is presented over 2 volumes.
