Mohiniyattam Part - 2
Originating as a temple dance form, Mohiniyattam portrays feminine love in its myriad forms, with Lasya (grace) and Sringara (beauty) bhava and gives importance to gestural and facial acting. Performances are divided to two stages – ‘Nritta’ (pure dance) and ‘Nrithya’ (expository dance). The important elements while performing the main pieces of Cholkattu, Pada Varnam and Padam are mudras and facial expressions. Prof. Kalamandalam Leelamma, the foremost choreographer and a reputed teacher, has to her credit the innovation of more than 80 new ‘Adavus’ and choreographing around 100 pieces of padams, poems and dance dramas. This album has 5 musical pieces sung by Trissur Rajeev and Nattuvangam performed by Leelamma, who is also a recipient of the Sangeet Natak Akademi award.
