Mohiniyattam Part - 1
Mohiniyattam, a classical dance form of Kerala was popularised in the 19th century by composers Swathi Thirunal – who is credited with many compositions and vocal accompaniments of this dance form – Vadivelu, and later by noted poet Vallathol Narayana Menon. Mohiniyattam follows the ‘Sopana’ music style, which has a haunting spiritual element, and Lasya (grace) and Sringara (beauty) are embodied in this feminine dance. In this album, Prof. Kalamandalam Leelamma, one of the foremost exponents of this classical dance, presents an outstanding performance that reflects the strength of tradition and grace in simplicity. This album comprises of 3 musical pieces sung by Trissur Rajeev and Nattuvangam, performed by Leelamma, who is also a recipient of the Sangeet Natak Akademi award.
